Meet Steve!
I have been on Cape Cod since 1995 and a Brewster resident since 1997. While I grew up mostly in the Boston area, my political journey truly began as an undergraduate at UMass Amherst, where I was elected to Town Meeting and first became involved in campaign work as an assistant town coordinator for Barney Frank’s congressional campaign. Those early experiences grounded my lifelong commitment to Democratic values and public service.
Since making the Cape my home, I have stayed deeply engaged in both local service and Democratic Party work. I currently serve on the Brewster School Committee, in my second term in that role, and was previously appointed by the Brewster Selectboard to fill a vacancy on the Nauset Regional School Committee. I have also served on the Brewster Affordable Housing Partnership, working on one of the most urgent challenges facing our region.
My involvement in the Democratic Party has been a constant throughout my adult life. I am a Cape & Islands member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee, where I have served for ten years working to ensure the party lives up to its values. In that role, I have held platform hearings, testified on key issues, helped secure the first platform mention of food insecurity, and authored a state convention resolution supporting school meals for all. Prior to that, I served as Chair of the Brewster Democratic Town Committee and have been elected as a delegate to Democratic State Conventions for the past 25 years.
Beyond elected and party roles, I have been an active advocate on issues that directly impact our communities. I have testified before the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources to oppose the use of dangerous pesticides on utility rights-of-way, and before the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Ways & Means to support funding for school meals and the Healthy Incentives Program for SNAP recipients. I have also testified before the Cape Cod Commission and the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates on affordable housing and regional planning issues, reflecting my long-standing commitment to workforce housing and protecting the Cape’s fragile environment.
Food policy and food security are central to my work. I am the only Cape Cod member of Project Bread’s Make Hunger History Advisory Board and have been actively involved with Feed Kids MA, Mass Farm to School, the Massachusetts Food System Collaborative, and the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute’s SNAP Coalition. This work reflects my belief that no family should struggle to put food on the table in a state as prosperous as Massachusetts.
Above all, my public service has always been grounded in community, not titles. From Town Meeting to School Committee to State Committee, each step has been part of a lifelong path of engagement, advocacy, and commitment to Democratic principles and to making people’s lives better here on the Cape and Islands.

Last but not least, I am grateful to be the father of two incredibly smart, independent, and strong daughters, Dylan and Shayna. They have put up with being dragged to more political events than they ever asked for, and they are a constant reminder to me of why this work matters — to leave our community, and our world, a little better for the next generation.
